CONVENTION UPDATE
EARLY REGISTRATION HAS BEEN EXTENDED! Due to the overwhelming number of registrations coming in we have decided to extend early registration through April 30th to give everyone a chance to send in their information and take advantage of the lower fee. Effective May 1, 2008 the registration fee will be $45. SATURDAY BREAKFAST KEYNOTE SPEAKER – TOM ANDREWS We are thrilled to announce that former Congressman Tom Andrews will be our keynote speaker for the Saturday morning breakfast. There is no better person to start your day at the convention than Maine's own Tom Andrews. If you have already sent in your registration and would like to add the breakfast to your itinerary just drop us an email with payment information and we will update your records. SPECIAL GUEST – SUSAN MARKHAM, DEPUTY POLITICAL DIRECTOR – EMILY'S LIST Susan Markham, Deputy Political Director from Emily's List will lead our Friday afternoon session – Women's Participation 2008. Founded 23 years ago in 1985, EMILY's List is the nation's largest political resource for women. They carry out their mission — to elect pro-choice Democratic women to office — through a variety of programs, including Campaign Services and Training, the Political Opportunity Program (POP), Campaign Corps, and WOMEN VOTE!. These programs are funded by a powerful grassroots network of more than 100,000 members from across the country who are committed to building a progressive America by empowering women as candidates, campaign professionals, and voters This will be a tremendous opportunity to learn about the fall campaign! LODGING Hotel rooms in Augusta are rapidly selling out! We know there are still rooms at the Motel 6 (622.1048) and Quality Inn & Suites (622.3776). Our room blocks at the Holiday Inn, Comfort Inn, Econolodge and Senator Inn have all been reserved. PROGRAM BOOK SALES / EXHIBITOR INFO Ads for the program book are selling fast! For folks running for national delegate, DNC, state committee - this is a tremendous opportunity to reach out to Democrats from all across the state and support the Maine Democratic Party. Groups or organizations wishing to exhibit at the convention should make reservations immediately as space is selling out. Information about the program book or exhibitor information can be found at www.mainedems.org or email convention08@mainedems.org LOW INCOME DONATIONS Unfortunately, donations to help offset the cost to delegates and alternates who need assistance are tracking well below projections. Please donate where you can to help us make the event as inclusive as possible for everyone. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED We need dozens of volunteers to ensure a successful convention. If you or someone you know is interested in helping please send them our way. We need folks to help at check in on Friday and Saturday. We need volunteers to help with security Friday – Sunday. We need folks to help process registration at the county caucus and to process ballots – let us know what you are interested in and we will see if we can put you to work.
